Mae Kwan
About
- • Mae Kwan was born in Dong Ma Fai and has lived here all her life. Her family has been here for generations.
• Her husband, Tong Muan, was a leader in the community resistance to the mine and was murdered in 1999 because of his involvement.
• Mae Kwan, a beacon of unity, has been instrumental in rallying the community against the Mining company's operation. Her leadership led to the establishment of a community encampment outside the Mine's operating area, a united front that ultimately forced its closure.
• She is inspired by her travels to Chiang Mai, seeing how the community took collective responsibility for the welfare of the ecosystem and hosting visitors.
